Does this count as a December photo? Let's hope so. I downloaded this book by Randy Alcorn as an audio book and have been listening to it over the past week or so. Alcorn has a very powerful story from his own life of God's ability to provide in dire circumstances (humanly speaking) and argues very effectively from Jesus' words 'Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven...for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also' (Matthew 6:20-21) for what should be our joyful motivation for giving.
I've really been challenged by this book, particularly about some of my attitudes. The problem with audio books is that it is tricky to share quotes from them, as I don't have the text in front of me. Being a visual learner and a big fan of underlining, I find this frustrating! A very worthwhile read / listen.
Funnily enough God has really gotten my attention lately with that particular Scripture, and I have been pondering what exactly IS the treasure in heaven we are supposed to be storing up. Does Alcorn's book touch on this at all? Coz if it does I think I'm gonna have to get me a copy!
ReplyDeleteHi there!
ReplyDeleteIt's excellent really in dealing with that topic - what is our treasure in heaven. The author actually argues that when we give, these are the treasures that we do 'take' into God's kingdom. There are some good quotes on this in there - too hard to explain just here.
I highly recommend it!
